We offer workshops for the public at various venues in the Perth metro area and can provide private workshops for small groups on request. We are happy to quote for any occasion and would love to chat with you about options.

Booking Workshops for Organisations, Groups and Libraries and Local Government

A booking with Artistic Disorder or Neuron Connections provides:

Pieces of the People We Love - Create a Victorian Memento Mori

Explore the meaningful, intricate, and for some - creepy, art of hair work. 

People throughout history have carried tokens to remind them of those they love, or those they have lost. Carrying pieces of a loved one's hair was incredibly common in historical times. Fashions and types of hair (ahem...) varied- but it was in the Victorian era that elaborate hair jewellery and décor reached their peak. Explore the wonderfully weird world of hair work with Artistic Disorder and check out some 19th-century examples while you create a Memento Mori using traditional techniques. 

All materials - including synthetic hair - will be supplied. 

Insect Mania - Embroidering the Natural World

Historical textiles often feature fantastical embroidery designs. Some of the most popular designs in the Elizabethan and Victorian eras drew on inspiration from the natural world. The embroidery of insects - both in visible mending and as decorative items has recently had a resurgence in popularity. 

In this workshop, you will learn some of the basic techniques in hand embroidery - which remain unchanged throughout the ages - and embroider a small design to take home. 

Wild and Wonderful Embroidery

English embroidery as an art travelled to Australia with British colonists. Early colonial textile artists were inspired by the new and unique flora around them and incorporated elements of their new home into designs. 

In this workshop, you will learn some of the basic techniques in hand embroidery - which have remained unchanged throughout the ages - and embroider a small Australian wildflower design. 

Rag Rugs, Placemats and Coasters

Using strips of recycled clothing to make rag rugs is an old skill that has fallen out of fashion. In this workshop, we will upcycle old clothing into colourful and useful items for the home.

Learn to knit a washcloth in this workshop for absolute beginners! 

Did you know your choice of washcloths, cleaning cloths, and scourers can contribute to a more sustainable future? Knitting self-care or cleaning tools is a wonderful way to connect your environmentally-conscious choices with mindfulness and meditation. 

You'll learn four essential knitting techniques and begin your first project - a washcloth from ethically sourced or recycled cotton or bamboo. Each attendee will also take home a workbook, a ball of yarn, and knitting needles to complete their projects.

Jewellery doesn't have to be precious to be beautiful, but most fast-fashion jewellery is not designed to last. It's unlikely to be recycled and often ends up in the bin. 

This workshop will create a new life for unloved and broken jewellery! You'll learn basic beading techniques and use them to remix a statement piece of your design from a treasure trove of thrifted, donated, and unwanted beaded pieces.

Knot My Memories!

Do you have a favourite piece of clothing you can't bear to throw away or want to avoid sending old clothing to landfill? Make a knotty fabric picture frame to hold some of your fondest memories - you may even want to make a frame from the same fabric worn in your photo.

Upcycled Doggie Doo-doo Bag Dispenser

Almost any small plastic container can be reused for a stylish doggie doo-doo bag dispenser. With some creativity, recycled jewellery and Sharpies, you'll soon have a gorgeous dispenser you'll always remember to take. Just fill it with environmentally sound doggie bags - and you're golden.

Not too long ago, unravelling knitted items to reuse the yarn was common practice. In this workshop, we will take some old holey jumpers destined for landfill and reuse the yarn to create dreamcatchers or woven mandalas.

Many of us have piles of plastic or fabric shopping bags in our houses that never make it to the shops. In this workshop, we weave strips of fabric from these forgotten and uninspiring objects to create a bespoke woven bag you'll be proud to carry everywhere.

More than 27 million toys are thrown away each year in Australia. In this unique twist on upcycling - join the team from Artistic Disorder and turn unloved and broken toys into quirky upcycled jewellery pieces or ornaments. We will dive into a treasure trove of preloved jewellery and toys and combine them using basic beading techniques and ingenuity to create something special.


Science, Technology, Engineering, Art and Mathematics (STEAM) Options

Methods of Math Destruction

Age Range: Children 7 to 12 years
Workshop Capacity: up to 25 participants

What do you need to make mathematics and physics fun for anyone? Mandatory safety glasses, dragons, and catapults! 

 In this workshop, children will explore propulsion physics and mathematics while building their own catapult and dragon target to take home. Once our catapults are complete - we will use the magic of mathematics to adjust for accuracy by measuring the launch angle and range of dragon-slaying projectiles. 


Engineering Your Garbage

Age Range: Children 6 to 12 years
Workshop Capacity: up to 25 participants; alternatively, we can provide this workshop as an ongoing activity for special events and community festivals.
Duration:  60 minutes
Cost: $330.00 plus $3 for materials per attendee

A series of engineering challenges for kindy and primary-aged children using clean 'garbage.' 

Using a pile of (clean) items from the garbage, children will be supported to:

1. Make a contraption to retrieve an item from inside a pipe

2. Make something that can carry water from one place to another

3. Make a vehicle for a toy

Beginner Art and Craft Workshop Options

Who would've thought that knitting could be a stepping stone to health, education, and wellness? In addition to being fun and creative, knitting has health benefits. It reduces stress, supports literacy and mental health, and helps maintain cognitive function as we age. 

Learn the basics of knitting in this workshop for absolute beginners! You'll learn four essential knitting techniques and begin to knit your first project - a stripy scarf! Each attendee will also take home a workbook, yarn, and knitting needles to complete their scarves at home.  

Playing with Polymer

Age Range: Adults, teens or tweens
Workshop Capacity: up to 25 participants

Polymer clay is an exciting and versatile material. It is used by artists, makers, and hobbyists and is suitable for every age and stage - from children right through to professional artists and movie makers.

In this workshop, you will learn some simple basic techniques of working with polymer clay and use those skills to create your own jewellery using cutters. Work can be baked on-site if an oven is available, alternatively, participants can be supplied with instructions to bake their creations at home. 

Miniature Dolls and Marionettes

Age Range: Adults, teens, or tweens
Workshop Capacity: up to 20 participants
Duration:  90 minutes for each session
Cost: $330.00 per workshop plus $7 for materials per attendee 

In this workshop series,  participants will use polymer clay to create a marionette or doll body, then paint and dress their creations. 

Workshop One

Learn the basics of working with polymer clay and use those skills to create a figurine or marionette. Once baked, add painted details to your design. 

Workshop Two

Be guided through the creative exercise of designing and sewing a costume for your polymer clay creations. 

Early Literacy, Movement and Music Sessions Options

The Three Rs - Early Literacy Program

Age Range: Newborns to 3 years, parents and carers
Workshop Capacity: up to 50 families depending on venue
Duration:  30 minutes
Cost: $250.00 discounts are available for multiple bookings

Rhythm, rhyme, and repetition are the building blocks of early literacy. Facilitators will model evidence-based techniques to encourage early literacy in this engaging session. Families will enjoy songs, stories, and rhymes encouraging parental connection, language development, baby sign language, and motor skills. 

Delivered by an experienced facilitator, our early literacy sessions are full of joy, laughter, music, props, and puppets. 

Storytime with Shayde

Age Range: 3 to 6 years, parents and carers
Workshop Capacity: up to 50 families depending on the venue
Duration:  30 minutes
Cost: $250.00 discounts are available for multiple bookings

Join Shayde, our story-time presenter, for songs, rhymes, and laughter - with puppets and props galore! Sessions include early literacy tips and dramatic renditions of classic children's books. 

Current themed sessions include Pirates, Bears, Chanukah, Christmas, and Zoo Animals. 

Bespoke sessions are available on request. 

Music and Movement Program

Age Range: Babies and toddlers, parents, and carers
Workshop Capacity: up to 20 families
Duration:  30 minutes
Cost: $250.00 for a single session
    $700 for a four-week course 

Children learn more in the first few years of their life than at any other stage. Music, movement, and play have a vital role in this development and learning. 

This session provides parents with a toolbox of activities to foster development through play and an opportunity to connect with other parents in their local community. Based on Gill Connell and Robyn Crowe's guided exercises, songs, and enrichment activities - sessions can be delivered as single sessions or a four-week course for babies up to one year or toddlers.
